At Soma House, we offer Hatha and Kundalini yoga, integrating somatic principles, trauma-sensitive approaches, and restorative yoga practices. Our focus is on self-awareness—helping you deepen your understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and actions while fostering a stronger connection between your body and mind. In our yoga classes, we strive to create a space that prioritizes physical and emotional safety, inclusivity, understanding, trust, respect for boundaries, support, and choice, all while empowering practitioners.
Somatic yoga is a mindful and grounding practice that emphasizes gentle, non-triggering movement to strengthen the mind-body connection. It shifts the focus from external to internal awareness, helping you identify and process emotions, release stored tension, and feel more centred, regulated, and balanced in both your body and environment. The body holds onto emotions and trauma, and through self-compassion and sensory awareness, somatic yoga supports the nervous system in feeling safe while addressing the emotional effects and symptoms of trauma. This is healing through felt-sense.
Restorative yoga centres on full-body support and comfort to encourage deep relaxation and the release of stress and tension. You are always in control of what, how, and when you choose to let go—if at all. This practice facilitates integration, healing, and replenishment while cultivating a sense of safety and ease. True renewal comes from within, and restorative yoga helps you access that source of inner peace through stillness and rest in each pose. Some students in my classes have experienced emotional release or even "out-of-body" sensations during restorative yoga.
Kundalini is the yoga of awareness and consciousness. It combines breathwork, repetitive movements, optional chanting, hand positions, and eye focus. While the conscious mind is engaged in these elements, emotions and subconscious patterns naturally surface, helping you move beyond ego towards self-awareness and self-realization. During meditation, Kundalini yoga rewires and recalibrates the mind, reducing stress and anxiety while enhancing clarity, self-perception, self-acceptance, and self-empathy. This practice encourages a neutral and balanced response to life's challenges while letting go of perfectionism and self-judgment. Instead, it fosters unconditional self-trust and self-love, empowering you to tap into your inner strength.
The key distinction of Kundalini yoga is its ability to help you transcend life’s stressors, cultivate a mindful state, and make conscious choices that empower you to thrive as your best self, living with greater awareness and fulfillment.
